Armed Citizen Seminars
Part of our agenda this summer is the holding of Armed Citizen Seminars. This will be DEADLY FORCE lecture, similar to Massad Ayoob's LFI, with scenario-role playing and practical exercises, for licensed gun owners, especially those who carry guns. The seminar will be half day and will cover the practical and legal aspects of using deadly force, self-defense, and Philippine laws on guns. Among our speakers will be lawyers, security consultants, and people who have been involved in violent encounters who will relate their experiences.
I already talked to Atty JJFAT and Whipit about this and they already said ok. A fee or donation will be charged the proceeds of which will go to PROGUN initiatives.
We need you feedback on this matter if you people will be interested in attending.

This is the best announcement made...there are still many grey area that needs to be looked into and this seminar is one of the best agenda ever...kudos to PROGUNS...especially on a Philippine Law settings....

Regional seminars yes!
Yes we will definitely have regional editions of this seminar. Our only limitation is really funding and accommodations. Perhaps this is where you all could help. The best solution would be to contact local gun clubs or shooting enthusiasts who would be willng to sponsor transportation and simple accommodation. This would also be a golden opportunity for us to network with the regional shooters and establish PROGUN Chapters. And this network could also be a start of a NATIONAL POLITICAL FORCE for the gun lobby. It all starts with an idea. Hopefully it will grow.

Hand-outs? Snacks?
I just completed the pre-registration form but felt uneasy responding to the "amount" because I don't know if some form of seminar kit, hand-outs or snacks would be arranged by the organizers. Kaya medyo nahirapan ako to assess what would be a fair amount in consdieration of the effort and expenses of the organizers.
I'm most defintely interested and also considering to take my son along. He's 20y.o. now ... a little less than a year before he can legally own a fa but I believe it would best for him to learn legal and tactical elements of being an armed citizen from practitioners and experts.
Hand-outs & snacks depends on numbers
Thanks for your comments mandaragit. Whether there will be handouts and snacks will probably depend on the number of attendees. If there is enough people, and therefore a larger budget, I'm sure these will be available. Unfortunately, if there is only a few people per session, there may not be enough budget to cover these expenses.
Please help publicize this and tell your friends and family to pre-register. More people will probably mean lower contribution and a better experience for all :)
Learning and recall
Personally I believe we can do away with snacks since it's just a half day undertaking. Probably a 10-15 min. coffee or cigarette break would suffice. I imagine the participants would be so caught up with the valuable information the time would likely zoom by with everyone hoping for more.
What I would strongly recommend however are hand-outs. Knowing hand-outs would be provided, participants would self-regulate the urge to take down notes enabling them to better focus on the discussion. Post the seminar, reviewing the hand-outs facilitates better recall of what took place enabling them to compliment said hand-outs with their personal notes ... making these an even better personal reference material over time.
I have a few people (to invite) in mind. The seminar is obviously valuable ... the only questions they would most likely ask are When, Where and How Much.

It's best to have it the soonest possible time as the issue regarding FA ownership, the firearms summit, and the outrageous "total progun" is still a bit fresh.

FYI, we are just finalizing the venue for the armed citizen seminar. The first seminar will be held in Makati or Quezon City around August or early September. More details will follow when the venue is confirmed.
